The Thinking Digital conference, which takes place at the Sage Gateshead from May 21st to 23rd, features keynote speaking including Greg Dyke, former director-general of the BBC.
Also appearing is Ray Kurzweil, a futurist who believes that computer intelligence will surpass human intelligence in the next 30 years.
Herbert Kim, programme director for Thinking Digital, said: "As technologies get more and more sophisticated and complex, they're driving an ever-greater need for concerned and informed individuals to meet face-to-face in order to better understand the changes in our world, digest the future trends we face, and think creatively about what we can do."
The broad scope of the event means that it is the first of its kind in the UK, he added.
Meanwhile, high-tech start-up firms in the region could be set for a boost with the announcement of extra money for the Proof of Concept Fund, which supports new businesses working in the sector.
