North-east firms offer government procurement boost

Small and medium-sized firms in the north-east are to be allowed free access to a government database featuring details of public sector work, it has been announced.
The move is aimed at giving such firms more chance of successfully bidding for the jobs, the Northern Echo reports.

Under a pilot scheme, companies will be able to access details of government procurement contracts worth less than £100,000 by logging on to supply2.gov.uk.

Speaking to the newspaper Ross Smith, head of policy and research at the North-East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), said: "It is very welcome to see the government recognising the calls from businesses, and from Buy North- East, to make it easier for businesses of all sizes and from all sectors to bid for public sector contracts."

The Buy North-East campaign was launched by the NECC and the Northern Echo in order to help small firms win government contracts, they have now been joined for the Forum of Private Business.
