Work starts on plastic electronics research centre

Work is underway on PETeC, the Plastic Electronics Technology Centre at NETPark, County Durham.
Securing the £10m government-funded plastic electronics prototyping and research facility is a major coup for the region and will offer space, resource and expertise for companies to research and develop plastic electronics to the pre-competitive, or mini-production stage.

Developed as a partnership between One NorthEast, County Durham Development Company (CDDC), the CPI and Cenamps, PETeC will provide world-class facilities, stimulating innovation and generating new jobs.

Councillor Albert Nugent, Chairman of CDDC, said: "Durham County Council and CDDC are committed to building a strong economy for the County, and flourishing knowledge-driven companies have a vital role to play.

"The vision for NETPark from the outset has been to create the right conditions for innovative ideas to be turned into successful businesses.

"NETPark is already recognised as a high-profile, flagship development in the region, but securing a project as significant as PETeC will raise NETPark's profile nationally and intenationally."
